FP #147: The Queen of Self Love on Choosing Me Before We – Christine Arylo with James Rick
After earning her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and spending over twelve years marketing big brands such as Gap Inc., Visa, and Frito-Lay, Christine Arylo traded in building images for corporations for the chance to inspire women to break free from their limiting and outdated self-images.
Highlights from today’s interview:
WE ALL HAVE TWO STATIONS
- 108 Love
- Inner wisdom – smart, wise and flowing.
- 88.9 Fear
- Inner mean girl (for women) and inner bully (for men).
BORN TO LOVE
- At the time of birth, we are all born full of love.
FEAR IS THERE TO PROTECT
- Our first encounter with fear cracks or fissures the heart, opening it up to fear’s messengers. Christine calls this the cardinal love crack.
- Messages pour in from 88.9 Fear – The inner mean girl or bully station.
- They are there to protect us from getting hurt. For that, we can love them, but we don’t have to listen to them.
TRANSFORMING THE MESSENGERS
- Christine has cleverly personified the messenger of fear into something she can have a relationship with.
- She calls her Inner mean girl Beated Brenda and gives her clothes and a voice. But now, instead of listening to her try to protect her from rejection, she directs Brenda to identify the best people to connect with.
IMMEDIATE STEPS FOR SELF LOVE
- Make some commitments:
- I’m going to fall in love with myself.
- I will always be kind and compassionate with myself.
- I will not settle for less than my heart and soul is worth.
- I choose me before we- what’s the life that I want?
- Get to know yourself
- What wants, desires and values do you have?
- What wants, desires and values do you want to share with another person?
- Unless you have a loving relationship with yourself, you cannot ever expect someone to fill the holes and cracks for you. You want a whole relationship not a holey one.
- Self love serenade
- Sing a love song to yourself. Yes, it might sound crazy or a little weird, but playfulness is up there with lovingness.
- Release yourself from roles of repression
- Be playful, have fun with yourself. Express yourself fully.
- When you can play and be silly with yourself, you shed the roles of repression.
- Fear is contraction, love is expansion.
