FP #143: Award-Winning Actress Helps Young People Love Themselves – Clarissa Burt with James Rick
Today’s media is wreaking havoc on people’s self-esteem, especially on the young ones whose roots are not yet deep enough, so to speak, such that they are easily swayed by external forces. We often hear young people complain of not being as good, as smart, or as beautiful as whoever they’re trying to compare themselves with. They are the victims of the press or the media and, unless we did something to counteract its influence, we’ll be living in a society that is spiritually underdeveloped and lacking in substance.
Clarissa is an entrepreneur, TV video producer, public speaker, author, writer, inventor, award-winning actress, and entertainer. She is helping people with low self-esteem through a program filled with all kinds of practical strategies, tips and tools. In this interview, she discusses personal envelopment which is the solution to people’s lack of self-esteem, and what could be done to fight the negative influences of media.
Highlights from the interview:
WHAT PERSONAL ENVELOPMENT MEANS
• Personal envelopment involves love of self and self-esteem
- Self-esteem is a regimen that you have to deal with every day. Its byline is women’s development through personal envelopment.
- Love of self is the toughest love of all, the one needing the most nurturing and attention because we’re also auto-critical.
FACTORS THAT AFFECT SELF ESTEEM
• False messages in media.
• Selecting role models for popularity rather than character.
• Comparisons of the self against perfection.
• Voice not heard when younger.
• Non-supportive community when growing up.
HOW TO STRENGTHEN SELF-ESTEEM
• Don’t compare yourself to others.
- Accept that it’s impossible to be liked by everybody.
- Realize that being different and standing up for what you believe to be true is good.
- Accept that you can’t be everything, but you can be the best you can be.
• Keep your ideas fresh through journaling.
• Get an awareness of the self-esteem issues that you have to work out.
• Get yourself a support group.
• Take the focus off of yourself and do good by someone else -
- Meditate on other people’s lack or on your worst case scenarios.
