Here we come one step closer to defining the Soul and its relationship with the Ego.

In the past I have defined Soul as awareness - a ball of conscious energy capable of being absorbed by the senses and the Ego. But I had a hard time explaining how this 'awareness' energy also had the ability to reflect upon what it was being aware of independent of a brain. Because if a brain was required for reflection then it was quite possible that the brain was also simultaneously projecting (creating) the illusion of Soul. While I didn't feel (in my Soul ironically enough) that this was the case I wanted to find a way to understand more deeply and clearly communicate with others, the relationship between Soul and Ego.

Today it clicked. The Soul is sheathed in awareness. Awareness is one more layer of sensory perception - but its not like the traditional senses of the body. It can also be aware of and immersed in thought vibrations and other forms of energy beyond the body such as those experienced in Astral travel or out of body experiences. This awareness energy is part of the Soul, but at its core is a spiritual intelligence. And with this spiritual intelligence is intention. If I knew this intuitively before I didn't understand it logically until today.

Here's where it gets interesting..

Once I was able to map out my Soul more clearly - it allowed my awareness to go deeper. When I thought I was awareness - I was able to disassociate from the body and simply experience awareness as inhabiting a body. And that was helpful because it allowed me to disassociate from the Ego identity (James Rick Stinson) any time I wished to study it objectively - but today I noticed that the eyes of the Soul (the energy of awareness) can gaze inward with even more clarity. I can see my own spiritual intelligence and my free will in the form of intention.

Now I have moved from the objective study of the Ego identity and the thoughtless state of awareness observing awareness. Now I am awareness observing the intention of my spiritual intelligence. This does not have to be confusing. "I" represents the spiritual eyes of my Soul that I also call awareness, and the reflective intelligence at my center which is also sometimes known as mind. I have created a diagram here for easier understanding.

My individual spiritual intelligence (or mind) is at the center, the product of my individual mind is intention, my mind is sheathed by awareness - this makes up what you call Soul. Then Soul enters a body with sensory organs and a brain, basically operated by a force known as Ego. The Ego lives because of the Soul. The Soul can live independent of the Ego. But on the Earthly plane the Ego is king while the Soul struggles to make sense of it all.

All Soul's enter this experience with no map back home and so we either become confused at some level (usually the exterior) or we peel back the layers with great confusion and agony either by force of will (through great curiosity and truth seeking), or force of circumstance (through great suffering and loss) that cause us to surrender the Ego and simultaneously sense the Soul in the temporary vacuum that is created.

As we explore our selves we first discover the Ego and its many subtle ways of controlling the Soul. If we continue to search we begin to gain a sense for our existence independent of an Ego. But even then our understanding of our higher self is fuzzy. A Soul can sense itself but it has a hard time defining itself. Like a blind person that can sense their personal existence - but has a hard time defining their own face.

And because the journey of self discovery involves so many layers, and the higher the layers go the more subtle they become, its no wonder the Soul encounters so much confusion along the way. But indeed it is in the steadfast intention of finding itself that the Soul will eventually return home.

INTENTION IS ALL IMPORTANT

This quest has lead me to the point where I am now - recognizing that intention is all important. It is the root of all creation. It is through the training of intention that we can eventually learn to fix ourselves not upon the Ego intention, not even upon the Soul's intention - but on the intention behind the Soul's intention. The spiritual intelligence that birthed the Soul - what is it's intention I wonder? And by asking the question - my intention then becomes more in alignment with the Universe's. How? You might have heard the saying, energy flows where focus goes. Intention moves energy - and if I sincerely seek to know the intention of the spiritual intelligence that birthed me, the eyes of my Soul (awareness) will soon be consumed by it, or so that's my theory.

TWO CHOICES

Life on Earth it seems come down to a very simple choice - do we live aware and intentionally or do we live unaware and allow our intentions to get swallowed up by the immediate demands of Ego? And if we choose the former; if we choose to live aware and intentionally - will we choose to use that intention to discover the intention of the spiritual intelligence that birthed us and gives life to us still? And if we discover that intention and we become all consumed by it - will we have enough spiritual discipline to direct the human Ego? An Ego so at home on this Earthly plane, so strengthened by its existence here with Matter that by time spirit has made its long journey from: intelligence > intention > awareness > sensory perception > environment - is it ready to at last stand as master over the tyrant Ego in this Earthy domain? And if so - to what end?

As I see it presently, our task is not to know the future. But to make our primary (Soul) intention the discovery and knowing of the intention of the spiritual intelligence that birthed us and continues to give us life. We are to serve as its instrument.

To become an instrument requires a disciplined Ego. To discipline the Ego requires the objective study of it or the complete surrendering of it - which definitely includes mastering the body in spite of life's short term pleasures. This is not to be confused with ignorant sacrifice of pleasure - it is only meant to mean that with the intention so fixed upon the understanding of the intention that gives life to you - you are ready to do what it wills.

It requires the recognition and faith of a power greater than anything Earthly - the power of a higher intention. And with this faith you can go to work honoring this power with the greatest number of your moments as possible, through the active awareness and refinement of your Soul's intention. Simply intend to know and understand (from the Soul) the Universe's intention for you. Even if you don't get an answer right away - make this your objective. That is the process. And do not reject it when you know it. Accept it, live it - even if it should so utterly change whatever plans you had for your life. Even if the actions you might perform seem weird or make you wonder how you could ever make money from doing it.

May your intention be now to intimately know the spiritual intelligence that intended you, and become one with its intention.

Dear James,
Beautifully and simply explained! Bravo!! I have also been wondering about this topic for a very long time, but could not put it into words the way you have. I thank you for sharing this with us!

Thanks Sofia..

This will resonate with some and fall flat with others. It depends on where you're at in the journey.
The fact that you've been 'wondering for a long time' is evidence of a search, though sometimes it requires words to give the Soul's experiences definition in the mind. The purpose of knowing is so that it can travel more freely where it wills.

I don't think your "ego" or your "soul" want you to know to much about them. Have a beer dude.

The Ego certainly doesn't want the Soul to figure it out.

Dear James,
You want to know God is what you want. To know the One united Godliness, the All. We are the children of the One and yet we also are the One. The Kingdom of God is within us, we connect to It in deep meditation. We are light we are souls.

Sam

I met a child at the pool named Sam
His blue eyes contained heaven,
Precious lamb,
He had just learned to say fountain

His curly hair was brown
His face was glowing
He wore the Holy Crown
His soul was full of knowing

He came in close to gaze at me,
“Hello lady I Am Sam.”
Christ in us the hope of glory
Precious lamb

I know as I Am known,
Holy One upon the throne
This is what I dreamed of:
Unconditional love.

Hi Lila..

Thank you for your lovely poem.

I understand that this spiritual intelligence goes by the label God. When I seek the intention behind my intention - I am aligning with this force you might call God. I use that word sparingly because so much (non-God, human bias) is associated with it. The goal in this writing is to map out the interior domain as objectively as possible.

I recognize in the end it might be the mind seeking to know the unknowable. I have read enough accounts of Bliss, Nirvana, Oneness, etc. to know that the experience defies description and the description of color doesn't do the rainbow justice.

During a long time I thought Soul should fight Ego, like there was a battle in me but then I understood the only way to go beyond Ego is to know it, to understand it and to accept it (because fight reinforce it actually). I feel Ego is in my mind (brain, thoughts) and Soul is in my heart (feeling, intuitions) so I need Ego to live but it shouldn't drive my life and intentions. You gave a good explanation of how it works, it reminds me what I am really looking for!

It's also important to recognize that you don't always get what you want.. but you always get what you need. :)
