FP #174: How to Promote and Make Brand “YOU” Stand Out – George Torok with James Rick

Posted by Mavreen on December 31, 2011

There’s hardly anything that can surprise us anymore these days. While products and services have brand names that get to be known through marketing promotions, you should realize that “YOU” is also a brand that needs to be promoted if you want to make it in today’s highly-competitive marketplace, whether in the corporate world or in business.

George is a speaker, radio host, and author of Secrets of Power Marketing, a bestseller published in 7 countries. In this interview, he talks about how he built relationships to promote himself. He also shares tips and strategies on how to develop a uniqueness that will make YOU stand out as a brand like no other.

WHAT BRANDYOU” MEANS

• It refers to the special value or uniqueness of character that makes you different from everyone else

• It means doing something to make your product or service offer stand out in the competitive environment

TIPS ON HOW TO PROMOTE BRANDYOU”

  1. Make sure that everything that you do will move brand YOU forward directly or indirectly

•If you’re a job-seeker, go through the process of developing a relationship with the right people first

… An example of this is regularly following up on your application instead of sending more out to other companies

…  This will let the managers get to know you and see your ‘spunk”

  1. Recognize your strengths and realize that they are what will make people hire you or buy from you

        • Since not everybody will like you, build a relationship with those who recognize your strengths

        • Those who like you will tolerate your weakness anyway

KEY PRINCIPLE IN BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

• Make people feel good about themselves

-     This can be as simple as saying ‘Thank you’ more often and meaning it

ACTIONS TO TAKE

• Start building a database of names and information about people

-     Categorize them according to the nature of your relationship with them

• Do something different with them based on this relationship

-     Sending a postcard once a year instead of an e-mail will make you stand out
